Hi there, new on the forum and quite new to tropical fish keeping. Bought a giant puffer a week ago and he was fine for a couple of days. He liked his prawns and was swimming along fine when he seemed to have lots of white spots all over him and one of his eyes is real glazed over and white, he almost cant see out of it. Have so far treated the tank with white spot as some of the other fish have white spots. He now just lies on the bottom and looks very un happy. He does however swim around the tank now and again. He has lost his appetite completely. Can anyone help? please!

If the spots look like grains of salt - then it's "white-spot" - or "ich". The white spots really do look like grains of salt - in that they are very defined granular looking thingamywhotsits.

If it looks at all "fuzzy" - then it's going to be fungal - and a very different treatment is required.

In both cases - follow the directions on the bottle carefully - do not skimp on dose or times.

MBu's get pretty big - 2 feet or so - you ready for this ?

(and welcome to the tank)

Thanks for your help. I think it might be fungal as ive tried white spot with no luck. His eyes are getting quite bad now like a small cotton wool bud covering them. The spots are not that defined so perhaps ill try the fungal treatment.

On day 3 of the 6day course, still looks no better. however the white cotton wool like spots are a little bigger now and look like there hanging on like a thread and at any minute they will just come off his body.
