Mysterious fuzzy ball

Hey so here's a quick question:

I was doing a nearly full water change and a good pruning on my plants when I noticed this fuzzy white ball on the bottom of the tank. Unfortunately I couldn't grab a picture of it but it looked like it had tiny spikes and something like a snail's mouth on the bottom of it. I got rid of it because I wasn't sure what it was and I certainly didn't put it in there. It was also grossing me out. I wasn't quite sure if it was moving or not, but it looked weird. I realize this isn't much of a proper description but it was like 1/4" in diameter. Can anyone ID it?

It may have been a bit of food with fungus on it.

Yeah that sounds likely, it's a possibility you're over-feeding a little, I've had the same happen to me, just need to keep on top of vacuuming the gravel or whatever substrate you have and make sure you only feed what is needed.

Yeah I'm beginning to think I'm over feeding too. Unfortunately I'm on break and no where near my tank, and I won't be for another good 3 weeks. I have an autofeeder going but I think it's giving too much food. I just expect to come back to a disaster...

I figured the little ball wasn't a big deal, I was just curious as to what it was. Anyway, thanks for the help!
