I built my own tank stand about a year ago out of 2x4s. It is very sturdy in my opinion. It is 49" long X 13" wide X 30" high. It is made of one rectangular box up top & one below supported by six legs; two on each end & two in the middle (see drawing below). I have it anchored to the wall due to it being so narrow. It holds my 40 long aquarium.
Here is my dilema: I want to remove the two center legs so that my wet/dry filter will fit inside the stand. I will move those two legs down just enough so that the filter fits & reattach them (see 2nd drawing). My wife is scared that the tank will come crashing down. I'm willing to bet my left arm that the tank would be fine even if I weren't to put the two center legs back. 2x4s are VERY STRONG. I will be doing this with fish in it. The tank weighs no more that 400lbs MAX. I will, of course, drain the tank halfway during the process.
Everything will be fine, right?
