In one of my little 6 gallon heavily planted tanks... my betta started getting sick. he just wasn't swimming around actively, and I noticed what appears to be fin rot on just his left side (ie. the fins on the left side are gone). I don't think he got bullied or bitten (he's by far the gorilla in the tank). His color is bad, etc. Everything else in the tank is going gangbusters - 4 neons growing and acting normal, 2 ottos happy and fat, and a mini colony of RCS breeding away. Plants are amazing and the envy of the neighborhood. Water parameters are normal.
So, I netted the poor guy out and put him in a bowl to hospitalize. I've been treating with melafix (3rd day now). He is eating great, and looking better already. However, I'm wanting to change some water (poop and a little uneaten food... besides it is an unflitered bowl). Anyways, the directions for melafix say to treat for 7 days and then do a 25% water change. I suspect that some of the way that the medication works is by gradually building concentration. Any idea how I could accomodate efficacious treatment and still do a maybe 50% water change?
