Need help desperately

I had bought two convicts at the same time and now one has killed the other. How hard is it to find another one. I am looking for another one the same size and I am looking for a male. The two were the same size and the one I thought was the female grew larger than the male. Does this happen?I am afraid to put anything but a snail in with her. Does this sound like a female that is this aggessive? Or if any one has any suggestions to what I can put in with her other than another convict. Thanks for any help.

are you trying to get the convicts to breed?

what size is your tank? and yes females can get just as dominant as males can. need a little more info about it, if you have an over aggressive female, you may want to take it back and get a different one.

don't try to get them to breed, unless you are prepared to have hundreds upon hundreds of fry, because once they do start breeding they'll have to be separated in order to stop them from breeding every 2 weeks. females have orange just behind their fins, right on their stomach, that is the easiest way to distinguish the two sexes.

Can you get some pictures so i can ID wether it is a female or male?

Females will get as domiant if not more than the males but will not grow bigger than them.

Does the 1 still alive have orange on its side?

Convicts are VERY common because it is so easy for them to breed. To bad you arn't near SC, i'd give you some for free.

Acctually my Females fins are longer than my males......but the tips of my males have been bitten off by other fish at some time or another.

If I have a male convict now will it be wise to buy another male or am I just looking for trouble. The one that died was a male it had all the classic signs of a male.It was the aggressor then something happened and the other one is now the aggressor.Maybe i will just take it back to the store and house my kribs babies.

sounds like a plan two male cons will fight in a small tank so id go with the kribs good luck!

I think if you have more then two in the tank they will pair off together and no one will dominate. Im not sure on that though just a suggestion. What size tank is it you have?
