I have a 55 gallon tank and it came with a 200 watt heater. It was part of a kit from walmart. The heater works very well. It keeps the tank at a steady 77. However, because I have 2 fish showing signs of ich, I tried to up the heat. And even on high, I haven't been able to get the heat to rise. Is it maxed out? Should I get a 2nd heater? Or should I just get a bigger one? Or is there some trick to the heater I may not know?

Thanks,

I would ditch the WM heater. They aren't reliable, particularly over the long term. I would get a bigger & better one. A single 250w Ebo-Jager will do the trick. You will probably have to lay it horizontally on the back wall, but it's submersible, so no worries. Besides, it heats better that way. I have 2-200w (75g) and 2-250w (100g) and they are some heatin' sons-a-guns. Very stable, very accurate, and can get very hot!

more heat

Thanks. Think I'll visit LFS after work tomorrow. I need one of those, and an amonia test (It's the only test I don't have, I think, and it seems that it's one of the important ones.)
