Ok i have a hood on my tank but i want to replace it with new one so i can cut the back to fit what i have set up. There is a big hole in back for my loaches to jump out of if they find it. I have heard of fish jumping out and i don't want this to happen. So for right now i have a towel covering hole. My tank is 29 gallon but i measure it and the top is only 29.5 inches from lip to lip for hood to sit on. I cannot find a hood for 29 gallon tanks but i can for 30 gallon tanks. Should i buy a 30 Gallon hood and see if it works?

no i have a hood thing... it is plastic and the lighing sits on top of it. There is door flips up to feed and clean tank through, but it is all one piece. I will take picture and post it this weekend, I am looking to replace the plastic portion. I have thought about a glass top but then my filter wouldn't fit and i would have wierd light setup. Dr Fosters has something i am looking for but it is one inch bigger than the size mine currently is... so i have oddball size tank i think.

I think if it were my tank, I'd look into other ways to cover the holes. Some people have used plastic or acrylic to cover the holes up.

If I did need to change an all-in-one hood, I'd almost always replace it with a glass canopy and a light fixture. I really don't like those plastic hood much, they're ugly and way too expensive for what they are, IMO.

didn't think of that one maha... good thinking. So if i switch to plexi glass... would i have to get whole new light or can i just set current light fixture ontop of it? I can remove the light from the hood so the light is keepable just need to figure way of mounting it to the plexi glass. perhaps a little lip or something glued onto plexi glass.
