Hey i have a huge list of questions that i would really like answers too I know there are a few but i know i can trust peoples opinions here and i have no one else to ask hahaha

Anywho on the with questions

Was at my local LFS and was looking at the tanks
Heres what i'm thinking in tank size
72" x 24" x 18" 132gal (Metric its 183cm x61cm x 45cm = 502cm[sup]2[/sup] litres)

Heres what i need to know about
The filter I want to use a filter from Eheim from what i have been hearing about them there good (Real good) the filter i am thinking of is Ehaim Cannister filter Pro II 2028 (Which you can find here http://www.aquaria.com.au/cgi-bin/d... nister+Filter+-+Professional+II+++Range+2028 Its a long one sorry about that)

 • Will this filter suit the tank size i want?
 • what sort of filter media can this filter take?
 • what sort of upkeep is required of this canister filter?
 • has peoples experiances with this filter been good?
Anything any of you guys/gals know about this filter would be great
On to the next question
The lighting
I was thinking the AquaOne Aluminum Reflector 3ft Double (Which you can find here Once again sorry about the long URL  http://www.aquaria.com.au/cgi-bin/d...tName=Aqua+One+Aluminum+Reflector+3ft+ Double )

And it will be teamed up with this Fluroesent tub "Aquaster 30 watt (Once again can be found here http://www.aquaria.com.au/cgi-bin/d...;ProductName=Fluroescent+Tube+Aquastar+30watt )

 • Is this an alright set up light wise?
 • I plan on having many plants will these tubs provide enough light?
 • What sort of output can i expect from them?
 • Will it be nice and bright?
Onto the 3rd question
I want to get an AquaClear Power head that can move 680 L/h (Can be found here http://www.aquaria.com.au/cgi-bin/db/show?db=aquariacat&Section=Freshwater&Category=Filtration+%2d+Pumps&ProductName=AquaClear%2c+Power+Head+301)

 • Is this a good power head?
 • You can attach an air tub to the output? would this be good for CO2 distrobution?
 • How many of these would i need?
THats about it i do believe
Anyone who can answer any of these questions would be a god sent!!!

Thank to you anyone and everyone for anything you say.. and even for just looking its much appreciated!

With a large tank like that, I would definitely have a built in overflow (drilled tank).  Makes life much easier and you can create your own filtration very cheap.

The Eheims are very nice and I am sure it will work for your tank if you decide not to have a built in overflow.

I am uncertain about the lighting considering it's australian but a 2 foot deep tank is going to need much more lighting.  You might have to consider metal halides or power compacts for that.  That could get a little expensive.  If you can't afford this, you might have to look into cheap alternatives such as DIY or shoplights for some lighting.

I would personally place two 175 or 250W Metal halides with nice reflectors for such a large tank.

I think the Aquaclears are pretty decent pumps.

Hmm they aren't really an option where i'm living because they would have to be installed which we cant do (Unless they don't need to be installed) but even then wouldn't i need to remove the hood from the tank to have one of them? (Don't know if i like that idea because this place gets lots of dirt and stuff coming in thro the windows (I live in a sandy place with lots of wind always finding dirty sand all over the house)

I don't know if i wanna drill the tank i'll stay with the external canister filters )

thanks dattack

Can anyone else shed any more light?

The don't need to be install.  It's called a pendant MH and you just hook it to the sealing.  All the wires are set.

This is a very large tank for a planted tank, especially since this is your first?

Also, you can build your own canoy and add cheap T12 lighting.

Read up on what light you will need or can fit.
