hi, i have 5 tetras in my tank. 2 of them have paired off with each other and the smaller one has become aggressive towards the other 3 then goes back to its mate. I'v read about their breeding habit and am unsure why they are doing this. Breeding time, they have no parental protection habits. I am sure its male and female that have paired.

Any Ideas?

My neons have never acted like that before and I can't imagine what it could possibly be. I'm sorry I can't help much. All I can say is that I had 5 neons and all of them died except for 1. He started to school with my platies. My platies didn't mind but I thought that it was strange. Recently, I bought more neons and they are happy. I've never seen aggression in these little fish. I love their personality and colors.

I have two ideas of what's happening:

A) do you have any other fish besides the neons in your tank? If not, then I think they're just playing. The reason fish school is so they have a sense of security, and since there aren't any predators, the neons are just having a jolly good time.

B) How big is your aquarium? It might be a space/territory issue.

Hope this helps!
