anyone got any tips for catching fish?  I need to move some of mine to another tank and the little boogers are soooo quick.  Especially the smaller ones.  Does anyone have any netting tricks to share?

A bigger net! I just caught some neons and barbs and they are very fast too. A big net and go slow. No jerking movements. Try for one at a time. Corner it and slowly get the net underneath it, then lift slowly getting faster. Its more practise than anything. If the fish a small enough, siphon them out.

Depending on the size of fish compared to the hose. I siphoned baby neons with no problem. However, grown neons I would use a much bigger hose or not at all. I think the main tip is to stay calm. When you are calm, the fish will be calm. No quick movements that will startle the fish away.

If you have a small tank, two nets works best. If you have like a 30 gallon or higher, a huge net(like 10inches) works great. The net is so big, the fish dont see it comming, if you move in slow, and usually dash right into it.

Of course this usually doesn't apple to loaches and my false SAE, these little pains will not be caught, unless you remove most of the tank decorations....as I found out.

Yes, thats one thing I forgot to mention! Big nets! It is true that they will swim right into the net. I removed my neons and barbs from my 30G with a big net and it worked really slick.

That's great advice! ;D When I had some cichlids in my 29 gallon I had the hardest time getting them out! I had every rock and plastic plant turned upside down and still no fish. Those dwarf ones are really hard! ;D 8)
