Sorry to hear about the female.:(

Personaly i LOVE Brichardis. They are realitivly easy to breed and i think they look great. Right now i have 3 but so far they haven't bred.
If you don't like those then mabye some dwarf cichlids. They are small, colorful, and fun to watch.

Good luck with breeding silverdollar!

Lol domestic violence.

Brichardi are easy to breed/keep. They are ok but eh i prefer to look to something else. Are you looking to just breed or keep and just hope they breed? Other Tangs would be cool, but probably won't make the 30gal very active. Julis are cool but stay near the bottom, same with shell dwellers.

Think on this more, i will. ;)

What julies did you have that stayed on the bottom? My dickfeldi were all over the place, and loved nothing more than to play hide and seek with other, larger fish. lol, they were a hoot to watch. They loved to get crap started, but never actually got into any fights.

Matt's right, brichardi aren't the most colorfull, but I loved them. I keep them in a 29 gallon as a species only tank for quite a while and just let them breed as they wanted. I didn't have to try to get them to do anything, they were more than happy to take care of everything on their own. The only thing I would think about though, is if you have REALLY soft water with a low pH, you might want to pass on the Rift cichlids unless your willing to spend a lot of time and dedication to buffering and monitoring the tank. When you artificially change the parameters things can go bad quick if your not very carefull.

I highly recommend a brichardi colony. You'll get the most "bang for your buck" as far as activity and amount of fish in a tank of that size. You have, have, HAVE to start out with just one breeding pair though, and let the colony increase with their offspring as they breed. I had a colony in a 33gal tank and it was the coolest looking thing...one day when I have a 75gal tank or bigger to devote, I'll do it again on a much larger scale. They are such beautiful fish and watching them in a family "unit" is so neat.

I was thinkng of getting a male and female and let them do there business lol. But i agree that there not the most colorful fish but my favorite thing about them is there care for fry and how the older fry help with the younger. I wanted to get some kind of Geophagus sp. but i don't think that they will fit in my tank. I also thought of J. Dickfeldi(sp?) but not sure yet. Any other suggestions?
