Just purchased a pair of triple red A. cacatuoides from David Soares ( http://www.apistogrammaidiots.com )
A few things I was wondering that I couldn't find reading articles on the net:
My male's colors run from about halfway up his dorsal to the tips... will he color up even more still? He's about 1.5"
Also, I know that when the female is ready to get it on she gets yellow and her black horizontal stripe gets pretty defined, but I've noticed the male will sometimes have the stripe, sometimes not.
Anyway, I put them in my 55 all by themselves, with plenty of natural caves to choose from in the lace volcano rock, so I'm hoping to have some action soon. I hear you get a higher % of males at higher pH and temperature, so I'm keeping mine at 7pH and 80d F.
Anyone ever bred these?
