New Cichlids

Right now I'm keeping 4 African Cichlids in a 20 gallon tank. They've been in there for about 3 or 4 days and seem to be doing fine. I have 1 Bumblebee, 2 Kenyi and some kind of peacock. They're all pretty small. The largest is probably the Peacock which is probably only 2 inches or so. I plan to eventually get a bigger tank to keep more cichlids in, but do you think they'll be alright in a 20 gallon? I'm just being cautious. I've never kept cichlids before but they seem like cool fish, especially when they start getting those bright colors. If anyone has any advice or recommendations for me I'd be glad to hear them. I would reccomend getting a 40 gal minimum for when they grow up. Yhe 20 gal will become too small in possibly a short time

I'd recommend 55gal when they get older, possibly more. Peacocks get pretty large....Kenyis very aggressive. The 20gal will become way to small very soon if conditions are kept good.

 

[Cichlidian]

I'd suggest a min of 4 ft long tank with enough territories. A 40 gal (4'x15"x15") would do good. Most cichlids (except discus & angels) like length rather than height.

I think it's footprint (length and width) rather than height with territorial cichlids
