I picked up 3 convict cichlids from my lfs, one male, two females ( buy 1 get 2 free, they were overstocked). after further observation, I noticed that they seem to have a little bit of color on them that closely resembles a honduran red point. could they be a mix of the two? is this common? thanks.

hmm, i dunno if im right or not, but i think after they pair off, your gonna have some issues. they breed heavily, as i found out. start finding things to do with the fry before u have them. i bought mine strictly to start breeding to feed my oscar. like i said im not sure, but i think once two of them mate, the other one is going to be in grave danger (is there any other kind? j/k lol) . i might be wrong though, i know they do not like anything near their babies. not even a snail/

There are Honduran Red POints in the trade at the moment but you'd need to post a picture - normal cons show a lot of variation in colour.
Unfortunately mixing of them is all too common, a big p.i.t.a. if you want pure bred cichlids
