Hi everyone! I used to have an account on here a while back, but I couldn't remember my password and my email address changed so I had to make a new account. So I guess that makes me a beginner here...again;) .

Anyways, I got 2 kribensis over the weekend, and I was wondering if anyone could tell what gender they were. I think they might both be males, but I'm not really a cichlid expert...at all. The first two are the same fish. (Try to ignore the pink pebbles. they were dumped into the tank while I wasn't looking.)

Well, I'm a new Krib keeper myself, but I'll take a shot at this, The first pic appears male, the second pic I can't be sure (Same fish?) the third pic looks male also, but perhaps not as mature?

Here's a pic of my "pair" you'll notice the male on the left has a much more "pointed" tail end of the dorsal fin. The fish on the right is female (Dorsal more rounded). I'm not sure if that's the best method for sexing these guys, but It's what I've been told.

I'm sure a more experienced member will chime in here too. :D

I know the picture of the 2nd fish isn't that great. He/she hid inside that thing until my camera died, and then came out right afterwards.

Oreo...is that a convict I see in the background on pic #2?

The convicts were a gift from a long while back. They haven't caused any trouble since I got them, but if they start to become aggressive I have a 10g tank that I can put them into. I'm going to sell the little ones in the picture for store credit soon.

That's cool...sounds like you're prepared in the event that they turn nasty all of a sudden---which could easily happen! I'm surprised you can get store credit for them. Seems like around here they're just trying to get rid of them all, which is partly why I've opted to try something else instead as far as breeding goes. Very entertaining fish though! lol

Any closer side shots of the kribs yet?
