Howdy,

It's been a while since Ive gotten a chance to post back here...

I just got a new goldfish.

Story behind this: I was in Wal-Mart looking for some soft cat foods for my older cat who is ill, and I happened to walk past the fish.

It's just my strong belief that Wal Mart shouldnt be allowed to have live animals like fish. They dont take care of them.

I was walking by one tank, and I looked up and saw a goldfish born with only one eye. I felt so bad for the little dude. I wouldn't let myself go home without him, so I bought him and brought him back and put him in his own 2 gallon tank. He's a tiny guy for now.

He eats really well (he inhaled his food the first time I fed him) and he gets around really good for only having one eye. I named him Crush because the ride home was wild (and Crush in Finding Nemo loved the thrill of a wild ride).

I was looking closer at him and I noticed his tail. Im It's orange and has a little black but I noticed the top of one seems ragged, and white. I wasnt sure if it's scarring of some sort or a disease. I took some photos:

Any suggestions? Im keeping him alone until he's big enough to handle Johnson Fishy Foo

and maybe then they will live together and keep each other company in a larger tank. I just dont want Crush to make Johnson Fishy Foo--- who i've had a year (from Nov 11th), sick.

It looks to me like his tail is growing back after damage. Keep an eye on the fins to make sure it doesn't have tail rot, which will slowly make the fins shorter. If it does have fin rot you will notice the fins getting more ragged. It's not hard to cure, and there are lots of medicines available. But I do think he looks like he's getting better. Hopefully he will be able to move to a larger tank with the other fish soon :)

cool, thanks a zillion!

I just felt so bad for the little guy because kids were horrified by the fact he had only one eye, and from the person there--- it didnt sound like anyone was gonna buy him.

Ill keep a close eye on him because Im just so darned happy I could give him a home.

He looks like a pretty healthy fish. I agree with Lotus that it looks like his fins could be growing back after damage...or maybe thats just a coloration? I'd watch it and see if the white area changes size at all, if it gets bigger then I'd start medicating *I dont know how to treat goldfish* but if it doesn't change size...or gets smaller then I'd say he's good :)

Good call keeping them seperated until you figure it out though...things like fin rot are pretty contagious. Also be careful using the same stuff (nets, gravel vac etc) between the two tanks for now...just in case.

Cute name :)
