I just bought 2 pregnant female Guppies!! I'm so happy and they're so beautiful!! And as for my current juvie Platies, I have 1 male and 6 females. Theirs so many even though there's only seven. They're getting big, lol. So does anyone have any advice or comments about Guppies?? The bigger of the two is a half black for sure, and the other smaller one is a red variegated.

Thanks, but I'm not fully sure if my females are even pregnant. They just have a gravid spot. I guess I'll just have to wait and see if they get fatter or the gravid spot gets larger. My Betta seems to like my smaller red variegated Guppy though. She follow the Guppy around calmly and doesn't show any signs of aggression, my Guppy doesn't mind either, lol. But I wonder what my Betta is doing exactly. My guppies kinda look like this at this point.
Red Variegated Guppy (body size and belly)

Half Black Guppy (body size and belly)

Were the females kept with males at the store you bought them? If they were there is a HUGE chance they will be pregnant (I'm sure you've heard this a billion times). Just give them time, the first birth always take the longest, my endler's first births took a few months. I'm sure the betta is just curious about the guppy's being newcomers, but still watch them closely which I'm sure you do already. Sometimes rather than the betta bullying the guppies, the guppies will nip the betta's fins, so watch out for that as well. I hope they are pregnant, its always nice to get a few free fish ;) Good luck!

Yes, I do!! I think that they are both pregnant, despite the Red Variegated's size. They are perfect tank mates for my betta. She dpesn't nip at them and they don't nip at her. Yay!! I swear I got lucky by having one of the friendliest betta's ever. Plus, she's either not full grown yet or she's a dwarf cuz the female bettas that my lfs sells are younger then her but their so much bigger. She's grown since I got her, but she's only around 2-1/4 inches. The females at my lfs, that have now been coming regularly at the same size, are around 3 to 3-1/2 inches!!

Your betta will probably eat the fry almost as fast as they arrive. The bettas in my community tanks seem to really keep the population down. I have had not problems with the bettas and adult fish, but the fry are sort of like mosquito larva and fair game.

I just bought a pair of guppies, male and female.. The female has the gravid spot and her stomach was HUGE I thought she would give birth any second.. I left for a few hours and when I came home her tummy was smaller and I couldn't find any fry.. :( I was really upset by this, as I have everything I need to care for them.. Does anyone know how soon she will become pregnant again? She still has the black spot on her belly, she is just not as big as she was before... Its so hard to tell because I just got them..

I just bought a 125 Gallon tank with stand to set up mostly for loaches, but I'm excited to make my 40 Gallon a maternity ward sort of for breeding and such... I know its going to be SO much fun!

Just to let you guys know (Thyra!! lol) my Betta doesn't eat any of my fry. I have Guppy and Platy fry swimming around and she never eats them. She might nip at their fins if they're in her way, but she doesn't chase them around. I finally go tmy male Betta, Daemon. Yay!!
