New lighting help

I just hooked up the MH ballast and there is going to be about a 2 or 3 inch gap between the ballast and the drop ceiling. Do you think that might be a heat issue to cause a fire? I'm using a all glass tank should I worry about the added weight the canopy added? The bulb is 13" off the top of the water is that too far? How should I acclimate the corals to the lights?

for the weight no.
13 is high..how much W is your bulb and what kind

250watt xm 10k I only have one for right now. I'll have my vho lights up this week. I can always lower the lights to 8 to 10.

so mogul and 250...yeah keep it a little high, to keep the temp down and no splashed on the bulb

How about acclimiating my corals to the light. I forget what I was told before. I do only have the one MH bulb right now nothing else.

well i think you should do like you would with a new coral and lights just slowly leave them on longer until you get it on as long as you like
BTW got a picture and the ballast is it the one that you asked about or a SW made one?

I'll post some pics later today hopefully. It's an aro ballast. Do you think 4 hours to start is ok? I was thinking turning them on at noon until 2 then leave them off until 4 then on again until 6.
