Ok, I just won a new 130w compact flourecent light system w/legs and moon lights. I am going to put it on my existing 29gal planted tank. Is there anything that y'all know of that I should be doing to prepare for the transition. Right now I have a single flourecent tube and I am hoping that this will greatly expand my planting possibilities.

Some things you will need to know...
Obviously:
Power bill will go up
Tank will become MUCH more brighter
and...
Your plants will grow better.

Also...
LOTS of algae...
That is almost 4.5 Watts per gallon (WPG)

Are you going to co2, either pressurised or DIY would be good to help cut down the algae.

Also i dose Excel which fights back the algae abit when dosed daily.

Tank should look much nicer with the higher lighting !

Yeah the algae deal is something I am considering. I have about 8 algae eating shrimp which will have a lot of work to do. May get a couple of ottos. Might experiment with DIY co2. Does that algae treatment (excel) hurt live plants?
