Since the power outage, my girlfriend and I took the opportunity to "remodel" my aquarium. We put it on a new table to it's more visible, and moved all the plants and rocks and stuff around.

My inhabitants are now:
1 4" RES (turtle)
1 4" Rainbow Shark
1 3" Gold Gourami
1 2" Blue Gourami
2 3" Chinese Algae eaters

Just courious, does your RES ever try and eat the fish in there? When ours was about 1 1/2, we had put some tadpoles in there for him to eat, they didnt last no time. About 6 months ago we had some Serepe Tetra's ( i know that I didnt spell that right) in there and altho he never could catch one, he never stoped chasing them! The one we have is about the same size as yours. We did take the aquarium gravel out and put in some large pebbles, as he was always eating the gravel.

Like the tank very much. Very good job on keeping the 'natural' look!

Nice tank. Does your tutle uproot the plastic plants? If not I think the tank would look a lot nicer if it were more planted. Thats just my opinion, maybe you like the look now. Also I have the same fake root as you have on the right side of your tank. The corys like to hang out under it.:D Nice tank ..

Yes, the RES tries to eat new or small fish. Anything that's too big or that she's become accustomed to she leaves alone. When we first got her and used to feed her feeder fish from Petco once a month she picked up the nickname "Killer". It stuck to this day!

For basking, I use a piece of driftwood I picked up off the beach. It's attached by two suction cups to the glass (see center top of pic).

Yes, the RES uproots everything she can. The plants that have a "cup" bottom come uprooted pretty easily, but the ones that have a rock-sorta-bottom say down pretty good. She even uproots the fake root every once in a while while trying to get at a shrimp or algae pellet.

Oh, the reason I don't have more plants is because I don't want to spend the money (poor college student funds). I got the tank for free, the powerhead and filter on sale for $15, the rocks from one of the campus gardens, the gravel and plants from petco (most expensive thing in the aquarium!), and the heater online for $20. I think I have about $75 invested in it. However, I'm planning on putting in a DIY sump/refugium and maybe a DIY canister filter, if I have any money left after spring break.

Yeah...I can't put in real plants, because the turtle eats them! Apparently there are a few species that turtles won't eat, but I haven't done the research to figure out which ones, and then there's the process of finding where to get them if not at the local Petco.
