I am just starting my second tank my othere tank has been up for 5 years. I was just wondering what a good time estimate is to put in live plants??

right from the start mate they will help cycle your tank

Just make sure you are prepared to give the plants what they need, or they will jsut get covered with algae and make you frustrated. Plants need lots of light and nutrients. Feed them like you feed your fish.

now i have real plants in my first tank. So i know how to take care of them. Now about the alge how do you prevent this from happening, because it seems to come and go in my old tank. I give them food with every water change which is once a week.

if i get algae i just clean it all out and only have the lights on for 6 hours a day until gone then slowly back up to 8
