New RO/DI unit

Now that I have my RO/DI running a have a few questions. What does the actual auto shutoff thing do? What is the desired water pressure for the unit? Do I need to discard any water initially? The thing is a lot bigger and heavier than I thought it was going to be, but so far I'm pretty happy with it.

there should be 1 inlet tube and 2 outlets tubes. One of the outlets is for the "waste" water. The other is for the "good" water. As far as the auto shut off I have no idea, they vary by brand. It wouldnt hurt anything to discard about a gallon to get every thing working.

Now for some more questions. The unit I got is the ocean reef +1 from thefilterguys.biz. Now I just seen on their site that I need the float switch as well for it to work. Stupid me, I forgot to get one. When I'm done making the RO/DI water what do I do with it? Turn the water off I assume, then what?

After looking at the unit I am not sure how to store it. It is designed to be hooked up all the time. I would e-mail them and ask how they would store it. It might be worth buying the Float valve.

Since I need the water pump to boost my water pressure I won't be getting it for a little bit yet. Should my DI resin be starting to change already? How many TDS should I be seeing on my TDS meter? It's 0 after the DI unit, but anywhere from 5 to 20 going on to the DI.
