New Snails

Hi,
I recently got 4 snails because people had told me that all you had to do was put them in your fish tank and they would be like your own personal cleaners. They're pretty cool, and seem to be adjusting well. Will they have snail babies? Because some how a tank full of snails doesn't sound ideal. Any advice on snails would be helpful thanks!

Did you get golden apple snails (mystery snails)?? For those, you need a male and a female to breed. If they're pond snails, they'll breed like crazy. Check out this site to see if you have apple snails.

Yes, looking at the website I am pretty sure they are apple snails, I have no idea if they are girls or boys, can you even tell? So they probably will or will not breed? Thanks for the help

Sorry for such a late reply. You can tell the gender by looking at the last 3 spirals on their shell. If it's dark, then it's a female. If it's light, then it's a male. Here's the reproduction section of the website.

Don't forget to feed them algae disks and veggies sometimes. They will die if they don't get enough to eat. They need calcium as well otherwise their shells will start breaking down.
