Hello All,

I recently completed my first production version of FishsheetA7, it is FishsheetA7.Version1. This new version has... a ton of new features. Some of the new features include greater filtration accuracy, better profile data for all species (especially goldfish species), click-to-follow menus, and it is somewhat idiot-proof (meaning that it is very hard to accidently alter an important function as most of the cells are locked). I would appreciate it if some of you would take a look at it and tell me what you think of it. I should have tutorials on my site (sites.google.com/site/moashowmanyfish) fairly soon for anyone that may get stumped. Also, it is still pretty similar to the prototype version and thus the old tutorials should be able handle most questions.

Thanks,

Hi,

I have tinkered with SW applications, but I do not have any personal experience with saltwater and thus feel a little inadequate. Also, all of my initial research indicates that SW and FW are not all that different with regard to underlying forums, yet it is hard to convince anyone that such could be true. That is, I found the RWI limits for both types of systems to be virtually identical, implying similar levels of ideal cleanliness, and that the IFU-filtration formulas remained relatively unscathed. Trying to convince saltwater aquarists that this is true, however, especially given my lack of personal experience, is next to impossible.

Hmm,

I might be able to put out a simple one (one sheet, non-species-specific). Be interesting to see how people react.

paperdog9,

In addition to what newman said, the spreadsheet has a failsafe that prevents users from getting safe results unless they have answered every field. One of the most common fields that is not given proper due is the feeding schedule. Another one that can mess with your results is if you do not answer the toggle choice questions.

If you still have problems after looking into the above suggestions, then you can email me your spreadsheet and I will find the error. My email is on my website. I like it when people send me their spreadsheets so that I can check my theories against real-world answers.

FroggyFox,

Yes, I am aware that Spanners and T-Barbs are the same species. You will find that the spreadsheet has a few repeat values (check out the killifish section). This doubling prevents users from thinking that the spreadsheet does not have their fish. The stats the spreadsheet uses for the redundant species is exactly the same (same temperature requirements, same tank size, same biological impact). As to Spanners and T-Barbs not needing the company of their species:

1) Spanners are very gregarious when young (T-Barb / Spanner Barb - Puntius laterstriga)

2) Not all sources agree that adults are entirely solitary (Tee bar barb, Puntius (Barbodes) laterstriga Profile, with care, maintenance requirements and breeding information for your tropical fish)

3) Cyprinids kept as a shoal are less likely to bother other fish.

Granted, a great many fish that I have listed as shoaling fish can actually be kept singly, but my spreadsheet is not for answering "what can I do?". Instead, it answers "what should I do?". Just because a particular thing can be done, or is commonly done (consider goldfish in goldfish bowls), does not mean that it represents responsible aquarium husbandry. Many users of my spreadsheet take issue with how stringently the spreadsheet enforces some recommendations (particularly tank size and biomass calculations), but I feel that aquarium husbandry will be better for my efforts to put the fish first. (Then again, history may prove me wrong.)
