I found this tank in my basement (yes, I know where it came from   :) ). Washed it THOROUGHLY, no soap, dried, put in basement (my room). We have a '15' upstairs (might be a twelve, I didn't measure -> convert). Anyway, I went to petland, got some nice deep blue gravel, got two fake plants (white, they look nice against the gravel), a Whisper J(unior) 10-15 filter. Tommorow i will go get the heater. I've been tweaking the PH to 7.0, as this seems to be a good baseline. Also, I did a capfull of StressCoat.  *thumbsup2* *thumbsup2* *thumbsup2*The tank is 10x10x20, which converts to about 9 gallons...I guess it might be a '10'. Anywho, what would you guys reccomend? I dunno what to put in here, obviously have to be small, and hardy would be good (IE no neon tetras, im dont feel like dealing w/ 'Neon Disease') and no tricolor sharks...which petland sold us for the 15, saying they'd be fine...guess that bunghole has never seen an 18" tricolor. I'm looking to put in like...a school of little'ns, and perhaps a snail and MAYBE one more small animal that likes communities. Thanks for the help, and keep on Aquarium'in!

Zebra danios are great, they're pretty, hardy, peacful, and easy to care for. Or maybe get a betta. Or a pair of fancy guppies, they're really easy to breed if you want to try. You have tons of options.  ;D!

How many zebra D's will fit in this tank ( I am a begginer, so 1 or 1.5" to the gallon would be pref.)? Will they get along with some neat bottom feeders like a crab or two? thanks!

The more danios you have the more fun they are to watch.  These little guys are so cute.  Anyway, I'd say 4 to 6.  Crabs do better in terreriums where they can get out of the water every once and a while.  I would recommend you getting some otto cats.  They stay really small and as a plus they eat algae too.   :)

I personally think a tank with just a school of zebra danios is a sight to behold.  Then add otto cats, or maybe cory cats to help keep food from rotting on the bottom, and also add a bit of interest to the bottom.   *thumbsupsmiley*

You could go with zebras but, i think a group of say 5 or 6  White Cloud Mountain minnows :) They are small and the males have such vivid colors during breeding time :) Also they are inxpensive and very hardy little fish  *celebratesmiley*

Would agree w/ options mentioned above, but for the sake of your fish, if you're referring to lobsters when you say crabs, don't bother.  A friend got a blue lobster w/ his community tank, thinking it fit in well.  It was EVIL!  It would lurk in the shadows and wait for fish to come by then attack and eat them right in front of him.  He said it was sorta neat to watch, but gets expensive quick.  If you want bottom feeders, we recommend corys, cute and active.  Gotta love 'em.
