Well I haven't been around much busy with work....being in the army does that I guess. But I recently (finally) got to upgrade my tanks from a 65 & 55g to a whopping 125g and I couldn't be happier cause now my beautiful babies have the home they were in dire need of....so along with the tank I got a Fluval FX5 and I was wondering if any of you have one and can tell me any good or bad points about it.....The guy at the store told me to change the carbon every 2 months, and 1 of the 6 filter pads every 6 months, I also have a HOB with boi wheels on it cause I had just bought it and wasn't ready to part with it plus it helped with the whole bateria situation on the new filter. Now do you think this is over doing it on the filter situation or is it ok????also I but those biomax white things (can't remember the name) in it, how often should I change them???Thanks guys for reading

I dont really change out my white cylindars (might be like the biomax you're talkin about ) I'll just take them out and rinse them out because they tend to get clogged with gunk after a few months. You could replace like 1/2 of them if you wanted every 6 months maybe?

Glad you got your upgraded tank I bet thats nice! Sorry I have a Fluval 304, never had a FX5. I think especially on a tank that big its good to have both filters running simultaneously. Not just at first when you NEED it for the bacteria like you said, but also say if one of them breaks down or who knows...its just better to have more filtration than not enough IMO.

Overfiltered? Is there such a term?

I had to go and look up the FX5. Man that thing looks awesome. I think they are pretty new out. I can't wait to hear how it works for you. 600gph, now that is a filter.

Ditto on what froggy said. I rinse (in tank water or dechlorinated tapwater) and reuse sponges and ceramic rings in all my filters. I don't use carbon unless I'm trying to remove meds etc.

I've heard almost nothing about the FX5's... I know they're brand new out.
600GP/h is an impressive flow rate.

Let us know how the pump is...
I'm sure we'd all like to know about new toys. :)

Thanks guy, The guy at the store has just the FX5 running on a 215g tank, the thing is good for up to 400g so I'm hoping it does a good job and plus it cost almost $300CDN around $286 I think it was....and yes it is quite new...Thanks again guys I will post pics ASAP.
