Ok I am on the verge of getting a 55 gallon tank i have a 10 and I think its 29 gallon tank for my first 2 I used fake plants but I want the bigger one to be more realistic i.e. live plants and such does any one have any ideas? also will live plants require certain fish to maintain a balance?
last question so i have aquestion of the inch rule would this be a good mix for the tank or am i totally off with the rule

5 marigold swordtails
3 dalmation mollys
3 platys

also would it be better to add a small placo or something for the algae?

Well, if your wanting live plants...you should find out what kind of lighting your going to have...that will help decide what type of plants you can get. As for the fish...those 11 guys are going to leave tons of room in your tank. They are all little guys...maybe 2-3 inches per fish, so at the very most...you would have 33 or 55 gallons used. I personally love plecos so I'd add one. You don't need one though.
