new tank set up question

im setting up a 55g tank ive got my protein skimmer the skimmer is a hang on filter but is kinda bulkie is there ne way i can mount it in the filter box in the cabinet under the tank i am getting the Eshopps MODEL 75 WET/DRY FILTER

the skimmer is AQUARIUM FISH TANK PROTEIN SKIMMER FILTER 180 W/ PUMP and what should i use in place of the bio balls

Some live rock rubble will do just nicely. BTW, that skimmer is not going to do much for you except waste electricity.

what about the Coralife Super Skimmer Protein Skimmer for tanks up to 65 gallons is that an ok skimmer

Thats the same kinda skimmer that I had. I didn't know how bad a skimmer it was until I hooked up the new one. JMO

with that small of a tank you can get away with a HOB skimmer..... AquaC remora or bak pak are both decent

i would get any old 20g tank (or what ever you can fit under the stand) and make it into a sump or better yet if you use a HOB skimmer and dont mind the look of it in the display tank the skimmer along with your live rock will take care of all the filtration.... no need for a wet dry but its nice to have a sump 1. to add more water volume and 2. to hide all heaters, skimmer, ect...
