;D Yeah, i bought a new 20 high from work for 25 bucks. It diddn't have a hoodand light with it, so it got sold cheap. Here's my plan for it: 3-4 green severums and a gold-nugget.
Good or no good? let me know what you think.

ummmm dont severums need more water. we have 2 in a 4 foot tank and were thinking of only getting 2 more when we get a 6 foot tank, we do have other fish aswell though.

I guessing your tank is 20G. Severums can grow up to 8" and I thinking that a 20G is too small for 3-4 severums. Maybe 2 max. Severums are also messy. The goldnugget will outgrow your tank since they can grow up to 12".

Josh, just love that fishless don't you? ;)

Umm, no that plan won't work, sorry Geoff. Severums need to be in pairs and the minimum for a pair is 45 gallons. What about a convict cichlid tank? ;D

I hate convicts! sorry to any one who likes them though. they just don't appeal to me much.  What about a pair of severums, my lima, and a gold nugget in my 45? I know for sure my lima is going in there but more fish need to go with it.

Hey,
I had two severums in a 35g tank, and let me tell you, once they grew full size, there really was not enought room for them to really swim around very much. They would fight a little with one another but really you should consider either a larger tank for that many severums or, diffrent fish...
Sorry to burst your idea.

How could I not ??? ;D j/k

Geoff, how big to lima's get? Don't they get really big? Well that's what I thought so correct me if I'm wrong. :) I like convicts, not picky and don't require much attention, and they're easy breeders. Good luck on the new tank though. ;D

Lima's get up to 12 inches in captivity, up to 18 in the wild.  Well, i got three severums from work as a exchange for my dead tiger shovelnose.they are in my 45 gallon.  They are about the size of quarters now.  How fast to they grow, does anyone know? I figure that once they get about three inches or so i will add my lima.  I am raising some baby boseman rainbows to trade them for a gold nugget, hopefully. ;) I'm in good with the owners of the lfs that has him.

Geoff do you do a lot of trading fish around? Just wondering. ;D Umm I don't know much about severums but I'd say you have a while. My cichlids don't grow really rapidly. Oscars do but most I've had havn't been to rapid so I wouldn't worry about it to much. So will that lima be okay in your 45 gallon? Just curious. ;D

By what do you mean trading fish around?  like moving from tank to tank to tank or trading them to fish shops? The answer to both is no, not really. I just don't really feel/want to pay 50 dollars for a gold-nugget :-/ Besides, i don't have any room for the babies. My severums are about the sizes of half dollars now, the smaller of the trio is a little larger than a quarter.  My lima is about 6-7 inches long and is getting cramped in his 10 gallon. :-/ He needs to come down into the 45 with the severums.
