New Tank

I just got a 15 gallon octagon tank. i was just wondering what kind of fresh water fish i should get, if there are any nice ones. I am also a beginner with fish, so are there any needed fish, to keep the tank running clean?

Well since your new and know not much about keeping fish i suggest you read THIS thread so you can get an understanding on what and how a cycle works. If you decide to go the fishless cycle way, good but you will have to wait till its done to get fish. Fishless cycle is prolly the best way to go because you most likely wont lose any fish. Now if you dont want to do that you MUST get a hardy fish that can live through the cycle, example - zebra danios. Not any fish can cycle a tank some are very sensitive and will die very soon after you introduce them into your tank. So id say fishless or get some real hardy fish.

As for fish, have you went to your local pet store (lps) and checked out the fish? There are many kinds and you should probably go just to see what fish interest you, dont buy any fish impulsively, or else it will probably end up dead within the weak without proper reasearch and knowledge on the particular fish.

And remember you will need to do weekly water changes, fish tanks arnt just for looks they need a little maintence to stay healthy. Good luck, got anymore q's keep asking.
