A Japanese Trapdoor/ Chinese Mystery Snail. I like to call him a mystery snail, it sounds more intriguing. He is named I.M., short for International Man (of Mystery, duh.). I think his shell is purple, because the only part of it not covered by algae is purple. He is male, and is not hermaphroditic, so I shouldn't have any problems with a snail bomb going off.

Out of curiosity, Is it possible/ safe to clean the shells, and if yes, how?

you could pick him up and rub it off with like a toothbrush or a paper towel if you wanted to. I wouldn't use anything to clean it off except pressure. You might find that your fingers will work just as well.
