Is it possible that the cheap salt i bought, oceanpure 5 gallon bucket for $34, is another contributing factor to my neon green algae. My phosphates are under control and my nitrates are lower, cut back on the lights also. Need to get RO/DI but other than that is the salt contributing.

Whats the best salt for yer dollar?

dunno. People seems to like Instant Ocean, Reef Crystals ( i do ), Tropic Marin and Kent. Red Sea is often criticized..never tested it.
Seachem reef salt is supposed to be good, but i talked to a guy who told me the salt's dissolution was waaay too long. Some salt mixes are not really phosphates free, even when it's written on the bag.
