Here is a pic of a GORGEOUS Flowerhorn that I rescued from Petco..They had up for adoption..Can Anyone tell me if it is a Female or Male......

I brought it home and had to set up the biggest spare tank I have at the moment ( 15 g) There was a family there who were looking at it and the kids were badgering the parents about it. I was just standing there looking and listening. They didnt know anything about it, with one exception, IT WAS FREE!!... Parents were talking about getting a 10 g tank and such.... I went right to the Fish Associate and told them "I want that fish". As she was Netting him I called up my Good Friend who has NUMEROUS large tanks and asked him if he wanted this beautiful fish. He said SURE.... Well here he is in his Temp home until later today, he will going to his new digs... a 180 g tank
I have a friend that is NUTS about these big guys,He is coming today to pick him up. His new home will be a 180 g tank that has 1 Red Devil.
This Friend of mine has numerous tanks in is basement with mostly odd ball fish. His biggest tank is a 480 g acrylic, 3-4 180 g, 2 150, and several 55 g. Plus a new 46 g bowfront in the living room..
I think the new guy will have a great new home.
When I go there Today I will take some pics of his Setups...I think you will be impressed.

wow I didn't think that a chain store would carry something like this.

Personaly I think the adults are hidious, not because they are hybrids, but I just think flowerhorns are one ugly fish. lol But I agree you, the young one you got is rather pretty.

When we sold our adult oscar it was comforting to know that he was going to a good home like that. He ended up getting a 150 gallon all to himself.

Hah, sounds like your friend has a worse case of MTS than you do! ;) Sounds like he does have some great setups.

That's a nice looking fish...
Makes me wish I had the room for a huge tank...
I was in Big Al's the other day and as soon as I walk in and turn the corner, there was a BEAUTIFUL 225G All Glass tank/stand/hood kit staring me right in the face... If I had 1200.00 CDN and the space I would have bought it. IT was a weak moment for me..

Must resist contracting MTS until I have a bigger place...

I was Just sitting here wondering........ If I were to sell this Flowerhorn..... what would I get for him? I was looking on Aquabid.com and OMG *SUNSMILE* these fish were selling for anywhere from 90.00 to 300.00 for one fish:p
This big guy is about 8 inches long and his fins are "perfect"... and in perfect health.... Any opinions or suggestions would be appreciated....I was just curious...

I think you are already doing the right thing by givin him to your friend. Who knows what kind of place he would go to if you sold him like that. Might not be much of a rescue. That one kids parents might be on there looking. :p Does seem rather tempting though, I agree! Kudos for your kind nature though! ;)

I agree with Shaunna. It's a rescue. You paid nothing for him, the person who is going to adopt him should be allowed the same. After all, they are the ones who are footing the bill to feed and house him.

It's Karma... A good will gesture should always stay just that.
