Nitrates AND Nitrites?

My planted tank cycle is not going as planned of coruse! For a few days now, my ammonia is always 0, but both nitrites and nitrates are off the chart! I stopped adding ammonia days ago to see if the nitrites would drop off and they aren't. A few water changes have done nothing to affect it either. Any ideas?

That happened to me just before I finished my cycle with my little tank. I think all the water chemistry was just totally messing with my test kits. But don't stop adding ammonia. You need to keep those ammonia eating bacteria alive!
