I just lost 3 of my 5 fancy goldfish to what I believe was some kind of infection resulting in dropsy.  Now I'm concerned about the remaining 2. They were all in my 55 gallon tank until they started getting sick. At that point, I transferred the sick ones to an iso tank.  My last 2 fish look fine - no evidence of an internal infection that I can see. Should I do anything as far as medicating my big tank to make sure they don't get an infection? I've got some Medi-gold on it's way to me - I'm hoping to get it tomorrow. I'm wondering if I should feed them that for a period of time, just in case..    :-/

Someone suggested that I clean out the big tank and start over but that would be such a huge task - there's got to be something less drastic that I can do..

Any suggestions?

I like using Melefix with goldfish as a preventative, and the pond variety is a nice super concentrated strength that seems to work really well. It does smell though. I personally think it smells good, other people don't.

Either way, goldfish like lots of water changes, and that is the best way to make sure they stay the healiest possible.
