im gonna say yes based on the fact that co2 is a bigger molecule than o2 so if the o2 doesnt escape the co2 shouldnt be able to either...dont know about the seals, etc in the tank though

like bigfoot said just ask a man with gas ;)

I encountered a situation similar to this one. I got a great deal on a used CO2/Argon welding gas bottle. I figured (as did the guy who sold it to me) that the only difference would be the gas inside. Wrong. The valve is different and apparently a CO2 regulator is somewhat of a freak because of the potential for freezing up.

I called around to a couple of places who told me that I would have to buy a new bottle, until I found one who said they would take it in on trade. After I finally found the place, they informed me that they didn't handle that particular size, so they wouldn't take it in for trade after all.

They called another place (actually, a competitor) who would take it. After I finally found that place (both of them are in a rough part of town that I don't visit--the jail is there). They accepted my bottle as a trade in and only charged me the cost of gas in a bigger bottle than what I traded in.

So... grab the Yellow Pages and call the guys with gas ;)
