Ocean water

Is it better if i get saltwater from the ocean or if i "make" it?

and if i got it from the gulf would it be okay for fish? excluding basic treatments?

I would definatly make the water. It would kind of risky taking water out of the gulf...a lot of different pollutants.

i wouldn't even bother with real salt water because of the pollutants, microorganisms and any wierd things that may be in the water. if you really want to use it, i urge you to store it in the dark for a week so that the ickies all die off. if you mix your own water, you know it's clean.

I know people who use real sea water, but from the gulf, forget it.

its cheaper to buy an RO unit/buy RO water in the long run...compare the initial cost of the unit plus maintenance to fish dying off from contaminated sea water

Yeah...Coralife came out with a really nice one for about $120. Makes like 35GPD.
