im buying my aunt a 3 gallon eclipse for christmas and she wants to keep it at her work, it will probably have a betta or some guppies with 2 ottos or something, would it be ok on 2 day weekends without food? she said she could take out 1/2 the water on breaks and just carry it home and i would be able to help her out since i live near her

i dont know about the betta but the guppy and the ottos will be fine since they eat algae. keep a few live plants in there so algae can accumilate on the leaves for them to eat off of.

the betta should be fine for two days. in the wild, they go much longer without food. as long as the water's clean, they should be fine.

they have those weekend feeder things, not sure if they work or are good for the fish, but its an option. i know you can get them at pretty much any fish supply store and walmart

haha stay away from those little pyramids~!!!!!! they're awful~! killed one of my fish and the others were starving anyway.

for two-day weekends, honestly, you'll be fine. don't worry~! i forget to feed my fish for three days in a row sometimes, and they are none the worse for it

Theres a lady at my work with a 3 gal tank in her office. It is seriously over crowded with 4 black neon tetras, 2 regular tetras and 2 zebras. she leaves them for the weekends. and they all do just fine.

and yea the vacation feeders are bad, get an automatic feeder or get someone to feed for you

They'll all be fine. While I was gone for Thanksgiving break my fish didn't eat for like 4 or 5 days straight, and all were happy and healthy upon my return.

Yes, but if you let someone else feed your fish, make sure they aren't idiots, as many people are when it comes to feeding fish.

i put my food out in labeled bags so they dont over feed

I've kept a Betta in a tank in my office for a year now. Don't feed it on weekends, let co-worker feed when I'm away on business trip.
No problems.

In fact several co-workers have there own Betta's as well.

When I got out of town. I but my food in one of those Saturday - Sunday pill cases and have someone open the corresponding day and dump the food in. that way I know they are not being over or under fed.
