The other day, I became the "destructor of the planted kingdom" in my tank. ...you know...tearing out and re-designing for a new aquascape.
well..in doing so, I kicked up a bunch of "stuff" that has gotten deep into the gravel. Well, my ammonia shot up (as expected) to around 5ppm or so. I dosed with amquel (which makes the ammonia fish safe by binding it), so I wasn't worried. All of the fish were completely normal. I also measured nitrite and it was completely zero (indicating ..as expected....that the ammonia was purely from the tank cultivation). Well, today, less than 24hours later, my ammonia is around the 0.5-1ppm range, and nitrite is around 0.25ppm.
oh how I love an established bacteria brigade with a bunch of planted soldiers!
