i know people think Cichlid hybrids are bad, but the truth of the matter is that in most cases they aren't!;)

Let's face it:

1) If you take for example a Green Severum and cross it with a Midas Cichlid, then so what??.

2)Both of these fish are seperate species and can be breed normally to create more!.

3) If these two have fry that are living, then most of the time the fry are sterile(not able to reproduce)

4) Sure their may be ups and downs to hybrids, but the most you'll get is deformaties(big deal i get those with my guppy fry sometimes):p

5) Now, in rare occurunces, the hybrids can be non- sterile(able to reproduce):)

6) The only way i could see a hybrid crossing with a natural species, is if a female of the natural species lays eggs and she mates with a hybrid male.

7) There is actually more harm to ecology if you breed within the species(call me crazy but it's true). Look at the African Peacock, that's a species with different colour variations, and people crossbred the variations together and now the blood lines are messed up!

8) It's ok to do that once in a while but too much could result into the African Peacock situation.

9) If you realease a Hybrid into the wild, and it's so aggressive that it kills some of the fish, it's jail time!*thumbsdow

10) Now, if a species has only one colour variation then, no worries!*celebrate

OK, just because you like hybrids does not make them acceptable. Hybridization is bad because it kills the "pure" lines of fish, (red devils for instance) making it much harder to find high quality good looking fish of many species (peacocks and red devils for example).
Sure their may be ups and downs to hybrids, but the most you'll get is deformaties(big deal i get those with my guppy fry sometimes)
this may not be a big deal to you, but i don't want a fish that is going to have deformities, plus with many hybrids they haven't been around long enough to learn the long term health effects of the hybridization, the fish may have many long term problems that we do not as of yet know of.

Yep,

But if you intend to keep them for yourself and not give them to the LFS then I don't see a problem with it. I think it's exciting to crossbreed to see what kind of color strains you can come up with.
