I have purchased two new fishies :p and I have no clue what they are. I am told they are peacocks. I have done some searching and I have seen no peacocks that look like the ones that I have. I have taken pictures of them last night but I have no clue how to make the pics fit the maxium size for this site. If I were to explain what color these fish actually are I would sound crazy... so if somebody can instruct me on how to decrease the size of the pics I would greatly appreciate this immensely.

Alkalinity

You have to be careful when talking about alkalinity. "Alkaline" refers to the pH being high (above 7.0 which is neutral). If the pH is below 7.0, then it is called acidic. However, alkalinity typically refers to the carbonate hardness (KH), and measures the water's buffering capacity (ability to maintain a stable pH level). As long as your alkalinity (or carbonate hardness (KH)) is above 1, and you are not adding CO2, you should be fine. My KH is between 10 and 15 on my tanks.

Here is an excellent article on Alkalinity

Hard for me to say what those fish are with the small pictures.

Delta's right on with the alkalinity. Low alkalinity sometimes meens that you will also have a lower pH, but that is not always the case. Straight from the tap I have a KH of 2, but pH of 7.5. (Crappy city water...)

I know the pictures are tiny... maybe I'll try to redo them. On the Alkalinity thing, I will read this article and get back with ya 'cause I'm sure I will have some questions on it.
