How long does a Oscar live? I have mine for about 10 years now. He is still active and mean as ever, but his color for the past few months has changed from the usual black and red to a pink and gray color. Is he about to die? :( I should be prepared emotionally for this time I guess. :(

Damn. He out live every fish, girlfriend, car I ever had. LOL

10 years seems kind of short to me. I would have thought over 15 at least. They can sure become pets quickly. I hated it when I sold mine, but I just felt that he could live a better live else where in a larger tank.

Have you changed his diet or anything else?

Tried a big water change, rearranging the tank and so on? Maybe he/she is bored.

Kudos to you for having the same fish for 10 years! Good work. It is a while, but maybe it's not his time yet?

LOL, that is the thing. He is abnormally strong and basicly rearranged the tank himself, rocks and all (tried to rearrange the filter and heater also, broke the heater and now is blind on one side). So I basicly removed everthing years ago and he is more lively because of that.

Maybe he is missing a play buddy. I had a terror with him for the longest time put it past away months ago. In fact... maybe that is it, he just needs another playmate. Won't be cheap though, a playmate that size and strong enough to defend itself might be hard to come by. Plus the territory thing, he might kill the new fish.

What to do, what to do?
