Omg the petco people are crazy

they sell common plecos for dirt cheap that are an inch long.... and they dont say how big they can get i said i wanted to buy a pair of convicts and asked what other fish he would suggest he was like get a couple plecos 2 they will be 2 big to be picked on by the convicts >.> i had previously told him i had a 30g btw. just went there to get some new media for my filters and poke around at what they had in the store...

Definitely a testament to doing research before buying. It's kind of like a car dealer telling you "yep, that's the most we can give you for your trade-in." If you don't know what your car's worth, you're at their mercy.

I feel stupid for not knowing the name of it, but I went to Petco looking to buy a pleco, and the knowledgeable salesguy told me that plecos are okay when they're young at taking care of tank clean-up, but that they get lazy when they're older, and he talked me out of buying one.. What he did sell me is this tiny thing that looks and acts like a pleco, but isn't one.. Anyone want to help me? It's a small sucker fish that hasn't gotten much bigger than an inch, but he's really active... Must be some king of catfish...

Macrotocinclus affinis, formallly Otocinclus affinis perhaps? Commonly called 'oto' or 'oto cat.' This link has a good picture. If it is an oto, they do best in groups.

I had an "otto" that turned out to be a CAE who was an evil bastard that i liked alot lol

Perhaps a "Chinese Algae Eater", they don't really eat much algae, but are nasty and start attacking other fish as they get older.

its either an otto or a chinese algae eater for sure. i love my otto's....
