well, i was doing a bit of rearanging in my 55 gallon about an hour ago... and lifted up one of my resin rock ornaments only to find my peacock eel desceased, i have had him for about 4 months and he was eating and swimming just fine, no signs of stress, he had been unseen for a few days but that was not unusual for him he liked to hide for a few days then come out for about a week and so on.. anyone have any idea on what could have caused this? he had no wounds or signs of didease... im stumped and my water params are fine i just checked them yesterday.

ph 7.2
nitrite 0
nitrate 0-10
gh 25
kh 40

he will be missed dearly he was my favorite fish in my community tank and had so much personality ......:(

so are there any suggestions about what this might have been? he was a good size and was eating normaly, no signs of illness or external bacteria, the only thing i can think of is that he got stuck under the ornament and couldnt get out and died from stress or lack of air or something along those lines.. im just so upset about loosing him.

That is a possibility. Another possiblity is that he lived as long as he was going to live in freshwater. I know they can live in fresh but it shortens their lifespans considerably from what I have read. Soory about losing him.

no he wasnt old and no he wasnt the one in the picture, he was a very young (1 yr old at the most) and only about 6 inches, they grow to be 12-14 inches so it was not age. i have a feeling he died because he had burrowed underneath one of the ornaments and couldnt get out and died from lack of air, that is the only thing i can think of. (and the picture in my avatar is a violet goby also know as a dragonfish)
