One Gill

Goldie the Goldfish seems to be recovering but he is still sitting at the top of the tank and he is only using one gill. I have read this could be from the ammonia, as I had added new fish in far too small of a tank. They have been gone for almost a week now, is there any reason why he is only breathing with one gill?

Have you been doing water changes before each treatment? If not, I would change probably 50% of the water and then add treatment (if you still are doing treatment) to the water added. It could be ammonia, if you get a test kit and check then you can find out for sure (in which case I would definitely change water until it was at zero). Are the two new fish still in there?

I'm not sure if the goldfish's gills can be permanently damaged or not from ich (I just recently got my first case ever too), but if you can somehow water change and perhaps add a small air stone to increase the oxygen levels then maybe that would help too.

Thanks, I will try that, I took the 2 new fish out last week. I should have never believed the kid working at Petco that 3 fish is ok in a 10 gallon tank.
