So my advice to everyone who want's to drill a tank is DONT DO IT IF YOUR NOT SURE IF THE GLASS IS TEMPERED OR NOT! *laughingc

wow, hope your ok. glass can be a dangerous ( i gashed my knuckles a couple weeks ago with fresh cut 1/8" glass) thing to play with. so was that the side of the tank? i've been told the bottom is usually tempered but not the sides. how thick was the glass that you were drilling?

Yea I can replace it but I have to check into prices.. Might not even be worth it.. It was a back or front of a 55g, not very thick at all.. I took the chance a few yrs back on my 150 and it was fine.. guess im battin .500 now lol

Same thing happened to me recently. I found out if you have polarized glasses you can use those to see if the glass is tempered or not. If you see diamond shapes in the glass, then they are tempered. It makes sense, when I wear my polarized lenses driving my side windows and most everyone elses has those daimonds on them. I also read you could use two polarized filters, one on either side of the glass and if you see a cross that way, just what I've read.
