Optimal temperature?

I have 2 convicts in a 10 gallon tank with a lot of hiding places. One is a male and one is a female. They've spawned several times already.

What would be the optimal temperature for these fish? I've been keeping it at 84ish.

Also, the tank is currently bare bottom. Would it be better to add gravel? I do have a lot of spare gravel laying around..

All of my tanks are at 80ish right now...come summer, temps can get as high as 86 without any major problems.
