Hello gang. Its been awhile since Ive posted here...but im still here!!

I have a question about outdoor ornamental ponds. I live in Southern Ohio, and we get very cold winters. Can I Have an ornamental pond? I know there are things to do to "overwinter" the pond and fish....but I have no experience in this area of the fish world. I would like to have a goldfish, shubunkin, or koi pond. We are building a new home, and I can just picture this beautiful pond surrounded by wildflowers and hostas. Can my dream come true?

Thanks for all your help

yes you should have no problem.i know it gets real cold there so you will have to take some extra measures.first try to cover the pond.try to get at least half.use an awning or gazebo.if at all possible go BIG, ay least 4 feet,5-6 is better.the deeper the harder it is to freeze.run lots of water, buy a pump with a real high flow rate, moving water can,t freeze very easily.if you can build your filtration indoors, make a small shack to house the filter station in and heat the shack.you can even heat the pond if nessicary but that can be costly.a small price to pay though, and it just takes a few degrees above freezing to get by.you may not be aware of it but there are some great pond clubs in your area.get out and go to meeting these people are more than happy to share their pond knowledge, and welcome you into their clubs.last but not least pick up some pond mags.they will have great articles that will get you motovated to build your dream pond
