Oscar tankmates....

#1
I'm gonna have some full grown oscars and I'd like to know if theres any potential tankmates for a couple of adult oscars inna 90 gal.? I'd like to use the tank a little more you know. I'm thinking of a pleco and a couple of peacock eels. I don't know if the oscars are a couple, but I'm gonna go out onna limb. But what do you think I could get away with? Maybe one more oscar? Maybe a couple more fish?

Geophagus, Satanoperca other big soft/neutral water cichlids big plecs, real big characins. You night be ok, you may have the oscar fom hell and be able to keep nothing else. If you don't think you have a pair you might have hassle keeping 2 oscars together - how long is the tank. You will probably have to 'suck it and see'.

My oscars seem pretty close. Even though they ain't that big, they're always by eachother, its weird. They swim around like if they were a couple. If they are a couple, I heard that when they spawn, they'll kill just about anything in the tank. By the way loach, that is a good site. I like that beef heart recipe.

yes i plan on using that recipe at least once!:D its good to have a treat for em every now and then and the feeder fish could make em sick. (hole in the head, ect.)

yes, i did some research and i want to get an albino tiger oscar for my tank, i like the coloration more on the albino, i think it would stand out more, but it all depends on whats at the lfs this week.
:D

I have 1 red tiger oscar at 6.5 in, a common red oscar at 7 in, a red bellied pacu that is every bit as big as my oscars, an african clown knife at 11 in, a 4 in green terror, 2 4 in bumble bee chilids ( 1 male, 1 female), another purple and yellow chilid at 4 in, a 6 in midnight cat fish, 3 giant danio sharks, some cory cats, large pleco, and a very large crayfish. They are all in a 75 gallon tank wich I have plans on upgrading to at lest a 150 gallon. I rarely have any problems with fighting, except when the male bumble bee gets in a mood ( that is why he is going back) It's just like others have said, what ever you put in there has to be bigger than their mouth, or faster than they are. Try talking to the person that you buy fish from, they should be able to help you out if they are any good. Good Luck!!!!!!!

Hrmmm I wouldn't put kenyis in with an oscar, you'd be asking for trouble. Kenyi aren't the nicest of fish. For a 90gal, you canly have 2 oscars at most...you could try convicts or a dempsey, but keep a close eye on things. Another fish to think about would be a severum or maybe something a little less common - Hypsophrys nicaraguensis?

Just anything big and not too agressive. If you do have a pair and they decide to spawn then have an evacuation plan else everything will suffer bad.
Oziecamo - your tank really needs sizing up, at least you're getting a 150 plus. Mixing africans and s american fish just isn't going to work long term.

The obvious answer is other african cichlids (try to stick to one lake) , synodontid catfish and not much else if you want it to work long term. For the ones you've got, other 'haps' or aulonacara cichlids. Some of the rock dwelling mbuna will work, but most are too aggressive. You know the venustus will grow pretty quickly? Beautiful fish tho'.
