Yep, that's bad. Petco is selling plants that are not suitable for aquariums although they are clearly labeled as "aquarium plants." I saw some packed dry with wettened silica gel on the roots last weekend when I was there. They will not survive for long submerged.

Another plant that is often for sale is mondo grass. This is often available in dwarf or variegated varieties. It is the same stuff that is used as a border plant in landscapes. It will rot and die within 4-8 weeks in an aquarium.
